Shaping the medicine of the future – today

Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD) is one of the largest and most modern medical centers in Europe. With more than 50 specialist departments, it offers medical care of the highest international standard. The UKHD is a group with 14 subsidiaries, including smaller and specialized hospitals, service and technology companies, and training facilities.

Together with the Heidelberg Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University (MFHD), we see ourselves as a link between excellent science, forward-looking care, and outstanding teaching – always in the interests of our patients. We use our expertise and new findings to alleviate suffering, heal, and, hopefully, increasingly prevent illness altogether in the future.

A nurse wearing a face mask leans over a premature baby in an incubator and gently places her hands on the child’s head and stomach. The view is through the side opening of the incubator; the baby is blurred.
A small group of medical professionals look at an MRI scan of a head on a monitor. The screen is on a mobile trolley, with a ward corridor visible in the background.
In a laboratory, a person wearing protective goggles and gloves lifts a frozen container. Cold mist rises visibly.

We are setting up our campus today for the medicine of tomorrow. Important topics here are digitalization, personalized medicine, and the translation between research and application. We are constantly developing our infrastructure for this purpose. Our clinics and institutes are located in close proximity to each other in Neuenheimer Feld. This enables lively interdisciplinary collaboration and research at an international level.

Through institutions such as the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) Heidelberg and the Hopp Children's Cancer Center Heidelberg (KiTZ), as well as numerous collaborations, the UKHD and MFHD are networked regionally, nationally, and internationally. This enables us to provide decisive impetus for the further development of medicine and healthcare.

A yellow ADAC helicopter is parked on the landing pad of the surgical clinic. Three people accompany a patient on a stretcher across the bridge to the clinic entrance.

The UKHD and MFHD are the largest employers and training providers in the city of Heidelberg. Around 15,000 employees from 140 countries, representing more than 100 different professions, are the driving force behind this state-of-the-art campus, keeping it in constant motion and development.

Excellent together.
